Scarlets have signed Wales wing Ellis Mee to a new contract. The length of the deal has not been disclosed.

Mee is 23. A wing is one of the fast players on the outside of the back line, and his job is usually to finish moves by running in tries. A try is scored by touching the ball down over the opposition's try line, and it is worth five points.

Mee joined Scarlets from Nottingham in 2024, when he was Welsh-qualified, and was signed for the 2024-25 season. Since then he has made 43 appearances for the Welsh region and scored 11 tries, according to BBC Sport.

His progress has carried into the Wales set-up. He has won 11 caps, meaning 11 appearances in full international matches for his country. He made his debut against Ireland in the 2025 Six Nations, the annual championship between England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales.

He has also been finding the try line this season. Mee scored twice against Benetton, the Italian club, and once against Newcastle Red Bulls.

That form has earned him another call. Wales head coach Steve Tandy has included Mee in his squad for the upcoming Nations Championship games, the run of international matches Wales are due to play.

Scarlets director of rugby Nigel Davies is the figure at the top of the region's rugby operations, and the new deal keeps a young winger in the squad for the seasons ahead.

Why does a contract like this matter? Wingers who score regularly and earn caps are not easy to find. Keeping one at 23, with international experience already behind him, gives a club a player who can grow with the team rather than one it has to replace. For Mee, it means a settled base as he works towards more caps.

The contract length is the main detail still missing. Whatever the terms, the signing confirms that Scarlets see Mee as part of their plans, and Wales will be watching how he performs in the coming internationals.
