Mar Solís and Two Generations of Grupo Sound Share a Panel at Billboard Latin Music Week

Mar Solís, Emir Pabón of Grupo Cañaveral, and Alejandro Iñigo, Alex Torres, Fito Echeverría and Luis Araque of Grupo Niche took part in one panel at Billboard Latin Music Week 2026. Billboard reported the session on 30 October 2026.
The panel was called "Generaciones: Why Nostalgia Is Hipper Than Ever." Its theme was music that holds up across generations of listeners. Pamela Bustios, a senior charts and data analyst at Billboard Latin/Español, moderated it. Andrea Ramírez PR presented the session.
The artists performed parts of two songs during the panel. One was "Cali Pachanguero," a Grupo Niche classic released in 1984. The other was "Mi Mundo al Revés," a 2025 collaboration between Grupo Cañaveral and Grupo Niche.
Grupo Niche is a Colombian salsa group, formed in the late 1970s by Jairo Varela and Alexis Lozano. Grupo Cañaveral is a Colombian-Mexican cumbia group, a dance style that started on Colombia's Caribbean coast. Emir Pabón founded Grupo Cañaveral in the mid-1990s with his father, Humberto Pabón.
Mar Solís is the daughter of Mexican artist Marco Antonio Solís. She has covered several of his hits, including "Más Que Tu Amigo," which is one reason her place on a panel about older music is a natural fit for the event.
What makes the bill interesting is the mix of ages on it. A track from 1984 and a track from 2025 were performed in the same hour, by performers from two different bands and a singer with a famous family name. For the people in the room, the lineup was the point: the songs were there to show that older material still finds an audience when it is played again.
For the wider industry, panels like this sit alongside the event's data sessions and business talks. The event is a meeting place for labels, managers and promoters, and nostalgia-led acts are a steady part of the Latin market. The panel itself was a conversation and a live performance, not a release or a tour announcement.
