The cast of Godzilla Minus Zero appeared at the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival on Sunday, 1 November, two days before the film opens in Japan. Variety reported the appearance.

The film is the centrepiece of this year's festival, according to the festival's own news page. Its screening was set for Sunday afternoon, at 13:45 local time. Yamazaki Takashi directed the film and is credited as its screenwriter and visual effects supervisor. He also won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. The Japanese distributor TOHO releases the film in Japan on 3 November.

The sequel is a follow-up to Godzilla Minus One. Kamiki Ryunosuke returns as Shikishima Koichi, the lead character, and Hamabe Minami reprises the role of Noriko, his wife. Kamiki said the new story picks up two years after the events of the earlier film. Nagatani Sae plays Shikishima Akiko, and the Tokyo event was her first appearance on a stage.

Kamiki and Hamabe had come from the film's premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles. They flew back to Japan for the Tokyo event, which was held two days before the film's Japanese opening.

The film's North American date is also on the calendar. TOHO and GKIDS, a distributor of animated and family films, will release GODZILLA MINUS ZERO in North America on 6 November 2026. GKIDS announced the date in January, so the film reaches cinemas in Japan on 3 November and in North America three days later.

For the cast, the Tokyo stop follows a trip that began in Los Angeles. For audiences in Japan, the release is now a few days away. The 6 November date gives the film a second market to open in within the same week.
