West Ham 1-3 West Brom: Nuno under pressure after second home defeat in a row

West Ham lost 3-1 at home to West Brom on Saturday, their second straight defeat at the London Stadium. Their head coach, Nuno Espírito Santo, faced angry fans when the final whistle blew.
The mood turned before the end. Fans sang "sacked in the morning" at Nuno, a chant meaning he should be dismissed, BBC Sport reported. West Brom's travelling supporters, about 3,000 of them, also aimed the chant at him, according to The Guardian. Nuno once managed Wolves, the great rivals of West Brom, so the taunt had an extra edge.
Asked whether his job was under pressure, Nuno gave a short answer: "I am always under pressure. Every day." Speaking to the club's website, he called the performance poor and said West Ham had conceded too easily. He added: "It's a tough moment for us all," in his post-match comments.
The game itself moved fast. West Brom went ahead in the 20th minute when Felix Horn Myhre finished from point-blank range, meaning from very close in. Jarrod Bowen, West Ham's captain, then had a shot deflect in to level the score before half-time. Bowen called the result "really disappointing".
West Brom struck straight after the restart. Jimmy-Jay Morgan scored within three minutes, his fourth goal of the season. Callum Styles added the third with a deflected shot after a corner was half-cleared. Kyle Walker-Peters limped off with a thigh injury, and Nuno had already used all five of his substitutes.
The defeat leaves West Ham eighth in the Championship, the second tier of English football, six points behind the leaders' group. West Brom climbed into the top four. West Ham have now fallen behind in 10 of their 16 games in all competitions this season. Nuno also said the club had conceded six goals at home in two games.
Before the match, Nuno had met his players to talk about conceding the first goal, which has become a recurring problem. That meeting did not stop it happening again. Agence France-Presse reported that the manager is now under renewed pressure.
For a club with a loyal home crowd, the sight of supporters turning on their coach at the final whistle is never easy to watch. West Ham now have to find an answer quickly.
