French architecture practice Lacaton & Vassal Architectes has been named the winner of Le Prix Charlotte Perriand 2027, according to Dezeen, which reported the announcement on 2 November 2026.

The studio is led by architects Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal. The Créateurs Design Association & Awards, which runs the prize, said the pair were recognised for their work on contemporary architecture. Their approach is to transform and improve existing buildings rather than knock them down and start again.

Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999) was a French designer and architect best known for her furniture and interiors. The prize was set up with her family, and it honours people whose work has moved architecture and design forward. Lacaton & Vassal is not new to major awards. The practice won the Pritzker Architecture Prize, the best-known honour in the field, in 2021. It was also the recipient of the 2023 Soane Medal, a British architecture award.

The prize will be handed over at a ceremony on 16 January 2027 at the Shangri-La Paris hotel. The same evening, Japanese architect Kengo Kuma will receive the Andrée Putman Lifetime Achievement Award 2027. That honour is named after the French designer Andrée Putman, who died in 2013.

The awards are run by the Créateurs Design Association & Awards, which has an international jury of 300 members from 55 countries. The annual ceremony is held live in Paris. The organisation says it streams the event worldwide on its official YouTube channel, which has more than 300,000 subscribers.

The 2026 edition of the prize went to Chinese architect Xu Tiantian, according to ArchDaily, which said she was honoured for her commitment to cultural preservation and community engagement in architecture.

For readers new to the field, the story has a simple thread. Architects are often asked to build something new. This year's winners, by contrast, are being recognised for making old buildings work better for the people who use them. Anyone planning to watch the January ceremony can find the stream on the awards' YouTube channel.
