Prince William Reportedly Shrugs Off Anmer Hall Ghost Warning

Prince William has reportedly taken the news that his Norfolk country home is haunted in good humour. HELLO! reported on 2 November 2026 that the Prince's reaction came after a warning about the ghost, and that it was a light-hearted one.
The house is Anmer Hall, a Georgian mansion on or close to the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. The Prince and Catherine, Princess of Wales, received it as a wedding present from the late Queen in 2011. The family uses it mainly for weekends, school holidays and summer breaks.
The ghost story comes from paranormal historian Richard Felix, who spoke on HELLO!'s A Right Royal Podcast. He said Anmer Hall is said to be haunted by the ghost of a Catholic priest. The priest, he said, lived in the house before being hanged, drawn and quartered for high treason. Felix claimed the priest's voice has been heard, and that a figure said to be a priest has been seen wandering the house.
Before the couple moved in, they were told about the ghost. Felix said he presumed the reply, "No old hall would be complete without a ghost, would it?", came from Prince William. He did not say he had heard the Prince say it himself, and no statement from the household has been published on the matter.
Other outlets have added to the tale. Yahoo Entertainment reported on 31 October 2026 that the figure is likely St Henry Walpole. Parade noted that Walpole was beatified in 1929 and canonised in 1970 by Pope Paul VI. People described the Prince's response as relaxed, in a report published on 30 October 2026 ahead of Halloween.
Anmer Hall has other links to the household's everyday life. Royal.uk's weekly round-up from May 2023 said the Princess of Wales keeps bees at the house. The same round-up said she brought a jar of honey from the Anmer Hall hives for schoolchildren to try during a visit to the Natural History Museum.
The ghost story has spread quickly because it sits neatly beside a seasonal feature on haunted homes. HELLO! ran a roundup in November 2024 that covered the Anmer Hall warning alongside King Charles's own mansion.
