Actor Inde Navarrette will receive the Rising Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Awards, Variety reported on 2 November 2026.

The honour comes on the back of her role in Obsession, a horror film from Focus Features, the studio arm that backs a range of mid-sized and independent releases. Navarrette plays Nikki Freeman. The film was written, edited and directed by Curry Barker, and it stars alongside Michael Johnston, Megan Lawless, Cooper Tomlinson and Andy Richter.

Palm Springs International Film Awards chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi said her performance in Obsession is impossible to look away from. The festival's award is one of several honours the film has picked up in its run.

Those honours sit alongside the box office. According to Variety, Obsession has grossed more than $500 million worldwide, which makes it the highest-grossing release in Focus Features' history. Worldwide means every cinema market combined, the United States included. The film also holds a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the review site that averages critics' reactions into a single percentage. It has received a nomination from the Gotham Awards, a New York prize for independent film.

Navarrette's path to this point has been a steady one. She broke out in the fourth and final season of Netflix's 13 Reasons Why, then won a series regular role on The CW's Superman & Lois. Her first trip to the Sundance Film Festival came in 2020, when she appeared in Wander Darkly alongside Sienna Miller and Diego Luna. Sundance is the independent film festival in Utah, where buyers and sales agents scout films for release.

Her next projects are also taking shape. She is set to play Rogue in Marvel's upcoming X-Men film. She will also star in and executive produce The Waffle House Index, a science-fiction thriller from Apple Original Films and Plan B Entertainment. Executive producers are credited for helping to bring a project together, often through financing or business arrangements rather than work on set.

The Palm Springs festival is also handing its Vanguard Award for The Invite to four people: Seth Rogen, Olivia Wilde, Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton. The award recognises contributions to the film, and the four will share it.

For Navarrette, the Rising Star Award marks a new kind of recognition. Festival awards of this kind often point to what comes next, and her slate of announced work now runs from a Focus Features horror hit to a Marvel superhero role.
