HBO has ordered a second season of Youth, the comedy written and executive produced by Sharon Horgan, who also stars in it. A renewal means the network has committed to making more episodes after the first run. Variety reported the order on 2 November.

Horgan plays Alex, a 50-year-old divorcee. The series follows her as she juggles new relationships, her ailing parents and her troubled son, who is starting at a new college. Her story runs between home and campus, and the second season will pick up with the same cast.

Rupert Friend plays Patrick, Sharlene Whyte plays Sam, Aran Murphy plays Ruari and Robbie Gee plays Frank. Merman is the production company behind the show. Faye Dorn, Jim Kleverweis and Dawn Shadforth are executive producers, the people who oversee a series from start to finish. Shadforth also directs.

HBO says Youth ranks among the top five HBO comedy launches globally. The series also holds a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the review site that collects critics' verdicts on films and shows. The company did not share the viewing period behind its ranking in the announcement.

For viewers, the news means more of Alex's story is on its way. The first season is streaming now on HBO Max, where new episodes have been airing on Sundays at 10pm. Anyone who has not started yet can catch up there.

A second season also means another round of work for the cast and crew, from the writers and directors to the teams who build the sets and handle the cameras. Renewals like this one keep those jobs going for another production cycle.
