Justin Timberlake is set to release a four-part docuseries on Apple TV in December, and Janet Jackson will talk about the 2004 Super Bowl moment the two shared on stage. Variety reported the plans.

A docuseries is a documentary told over several episodes. Apple TV is the streaming service run by Apple, and this one is due there next month. Variety described the project as a tell-all, meaning the people involved speak frankly about their own past.

The 2004 performance has followed both artists ever since. During the halftime show in Houston, Timberlake tore part of Jackson's costume, and she was briefly bared on live television. The incident, known as the wardrobe malfunction, led to a public storm that lasted for years.

Earlier statements add context. In 2018, Timberlake said Jackson would not be part of his Super Bowl halftime show that year, according to Reuters. In 2022, a trailer for a Janet Jackson documentary suggested Timberlake had asked her to perform with him at the 2018 show. That same year, Jackson said she and Timberlake had moved on from the 2004 scandal, as the Los Angeles Times reported.

Timberlake has worked with Apple before. He starred in the Apple Original film Palmer in 2021.

Representatives for Timberlake, Jackson and Apple did not comment or did not respond to Variety's requests. The December date is the one viewers can plan around for now.

For viewers, the story is simple. A famous moment from 2004 is about to get a new telling, from the two people at the centre of it, on a streaming service many households already use. How much of the past gets said on screen will become clear only when the episodes arrive.
