A dinner in New York brought artists, designers, a filmmaker and a collector into one building, and the building was part of the show. ARTnews, the art magazine, and the watch brand Hublot hosted the evening at the headquarters of Kid Super, the professional name of artist and fashion designer Colm Dillane.

The headquarters covers 10,000 square feet, about 930 square metres, and holds more than one kind of room. It includes an art studio, a podcast studio and a store. It also has a rooftop soccer pitch sponsored by Hublot, so the watch company's name sits on a playing field high above the street.

Among the guests were Frank Suznjevic, president of Hublot Americas, and Carla Shen, a collector of art. Filmmaker Saam Farahmand attended, as did fashion designer Mobolaji Dawodu. The mix of names ran across art, fashion, film and the business side of luxury goods.

Food came from PJ Monte of Monte's Fine Foods, who is also known as the Sauce Boss. His cooking gave the guests something to eat while they talked in a space that normally runs as a working studio and shop.

ARTnews is published by a team led by editor-in-chief Sarah Douglas, who oversees both ARTnews and Art in America, the magazine's sister title. The magazine reported on the evening, which was staged at Kid Super's headquarters rather than at a hotel or a gallery.

The event shows how a creative company can open its doors to partners from outside the art world. A brand like Hublot gets its logo on a rooftop, a magazine gets a room full of readers and makers, and the host gets a crowd in its own studio. Each side gets something from the arrangement, and the guests get a look at a working creative space.

For readers who do not follow the art world, a few terms help. A headquarters here means the main base where a company or artist works. A sponsored pitch means a playing field whose costs or branding are paid for by a sponsor, in exchange for having its name attached. The pitch sits on the roof of a building in New York, a city where outdoor space is rare and valuable.

Kid Super's headquarters has been described as a place where art, clothing and media meet under one roof. The dinner put that idea into practice for one evening, with guests eating, talking and walking through a space that holds an art studio, a podcast studio, a store and a rooftop soccer pitch.
