Two people have been arrested after a volunteer for Australia's One Nation party was allegedly assaulted with a baseball bat outside the volunteer's home in Torquay, about 100 kilometres south-west of Melbourne, according to the BBC. Police arrested a 37-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy on Sunday night.

The man has been charged with assault offences and remanded in custody, which means he is being held in jail while the case goes through the courts. Herald Sun reported that he is a resident of Hampton Park. The boy, who is 14, was issued a caution, a formal police warning that does not lead to a court case.

The volunteer, who The Australian reported is 60 years old, was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries, the BBC reported. The Australian also reported that the volunteer suffered severe head injuries in the attack.

The incident took place during Victoria's state election campaign, the period before voters choose the members of the state parliament. One Nation's Victorian leader, Warren Pickering, claimed that the two arrested people had interfered with election signs on the volunteer's property before the alleged attack.
