National and Labour both gained support in the final 1News-Verian poll before Saturday's election, while ACT and New Zealand First lost ground.

The poll put National on 30%, up one point, and Labour on 29%, up two points. The Greens rose one point to 16%. ACT fell two points to 10%, and New Zealand First dropped two points to 8%. The Opportunity Party was unchanged on 6%, and Te Pāti Māori rose 0.3 points to 0.4%.

Rounded to one decimal place, National was on 29.5% and Labour on 28.8%, according to the poll's full results.

1News reported that on these numbers, National would win 36 seats, ACT 12 and New Zealand First 10. That would give the coalition of the three parties 58 seats. Labour would have 35 seats and the Greens 20, with The Opportunity Party on seven. Seat numbers are what the poll would translate into under New Zealand's mixed-member proportional (MMP) system, in which the party vote decides how many seats each party receives.

On the same numbers, 1News said both the National-led coalition and the Labour-led bloc would need The Opportunity Party's backing to form a government.

Asked who they preferred as prime minister, 23% of respondents chose Christopher Luxon, down one point. Chris Hipkins was preferred by 19%, up one point.

The poll surveyed 1006 eligible voters between 29 October and 2 November 2026. Its maximum sampling error was about plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at 95% confidence. That means each party's true level of support could sit somewhat above or below the figure reported.
