Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel dies after collision in Andorra match

Jesús de Miguel Alameda, a 30-year-old forward for CD Tenerife, has died in hospital. The club announced his death on Tuesday 3 November 2026. He died at 8:00am, days after a collision during a match in Spain.
The game was a Segunda División fixture, the second tier of Spanish football, against Andorra at Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López in Tenerife. In the final minutes, De Miguel was challenging for the ball in midfield when Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono struck him in the chest, according to The Guardian. He lost consciousness. The match was abandoned on Monday 2 November.
He suffered a cardiac arrest, meaning his heart stopped beating, and was rushed to hospital that day. He was treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), the part of a hospital for the most seriously ill patients, at Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz. On Monday, Tenerife said he was stable, even though his condition was severe. Hours before his death, the club said his condition had worsened neurologically, meaning it had affected his brain and nervous system.
De Miguel made his debut in 2015 with Leganés B, the reserve team of Leganés. He went on to play for eight other clubs in Spain before joining Tenerife last year. Over more than a decade, he moved from side to side across the country, a journeyman forward whose career was built on ninety-minute chances and long road trips.
Football often seems to matter most when a result is at stake. This week the sport's focus has shifted. Tenerife's players, staff and supporters now face a loss that has nothing to do with the table. Andorra's players and staff are also dealing with a match that ended in the most terrible way.
Our thoughts are with De Miguel's family, friends and team-mates.
