Olga Kurylenko and Alex Pettyfer are set to star in "Breakwater," a crime thriller, according to Variety, published on 3 November 2026.

The film has a sales company already in place. WestEnd Films has boarded the project for world sales, meaning it will try to sell the film to distributors in countries around the globe. The company will launch those sales at the American Film Market, the deal-making market in the United States where sales agents and buyers meet to trade films that are still being made or are not yet finished.

Kurylenko plays Iris, and Pettyfer plays her husband, Avery. Luc Walpoth directs from a script by Tad Daggerhart, who also produces alongside Kurt Wimmer, Jib Polhemus and Hannah Leader. James Ireland executive produces for Dark Dreams Entertainment.

Production is set to begin in April 2027, with filming in Malta. Malta Film Service, the government agency that supports productions on the island, will oversee the shoot there.

Kurylenko and Pettyfer have worked in very different corners of the business. She has appeared in large studio franchises and European art-house films. He came up through youth-oriented action films and has since taken on a range of supporting and lead roles. Pairing the two in a married-couple story gives the project a clear central relationship to build around.

For anyone who follows films from the start, this is an early stage. A cast announcement arrives long before a film reaches cinemas, and a lot can change before a camera rolls. Many projects announced at a market never reach production, and many that do take years to reach audiences. The sales company's job at the American Film Market is to find buyers now, so the film has a route to screens once it is finished.

Here is how the steps usually fit together. Casting comes first, then financing and a shooting schedule. The world sales company then pitches the finished or near-finished film to distributors in each country. For "Breakwater," the first public step is the market launch, and the April 2027 start date sets the next milestone on the calendar.
