Isabelle Fuhrman Set to Lead Sci-Fi Thriller Heartache

Isabelle Fuhrman is set to star in Heartache, a dramatic sci-fi thriller that is already shooting in Massachusetts. Deadline reported the casting on 3 November 2026.
The film is set in a near-future world where heartbreak has become lethal. Fuhrman plays a woman searching for love in that world, and her hunt for intimacy becomes tangled up with obsession and control, according to Deadline's description of the project.
The film comes from Beth Fletcher, a first-time feature filmmaker. Her earlier work has been shown at the Toronto International Film Festival, the RiverRun International Film Festival and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Mark Ashin wrote the screenplay, and he is also one of the producers, working with Page 8 Pictures. Sionne Elise, Dylan Matlock and JP Ouellette are producing too, with Circa 1888 attached. SJ Allocco-St. Germain is casting the film.
Fuhrman is also an executive producer on Heartache. That title usually goes to someone who helps shape the financing or oversees the project, rather than someone running the day-to-day work on set.
Her next major release is The 99ers, a Netflix sports drama about the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup. The streamer has it slated for 2027. Fuhrman was previously nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead for The Novice. The Independent Spirit Awards honour films made outside the major studio system.
For a film shooting now, the path to screens is long. A project usually needs months of filming, then editing, music and sound work, before a distributor picks a release date. Heartache has no release date, so audiences will have to wait for a later announcement.
