The fifth Bangkok Art Biennale is open, with some 70 artists showing work at 11 locations around the Thai capital. The show runs from 29 October 2026 to 28 February 2027, so visitors have about four months to see it.

A biennale is a large international art exhibition. The name dates from a time when these shows came around every two years, though the schedule varies now. This edition is built around the theme ANGELS & MARA. Mara is a figure from Buddhist tradition, a tempter who tries to pull a person away from enlightenment.

The event listing from the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre says the biennale includes more than 200 contemporary artworks by artists from 29 nationalities. Its participants are spread across the city, so visitors will need to plan routes between venues.

Artnet News sent its reviewer, Sam Gaskin, to the show. His review, headlined "At Thrilling Bangkok Biennale, the Devils Are in the Details," looks closely at how the works sit within the city's venues.

For visitors, the practical question is where to start. With works at 11 sites, the simplest approach is to pick a few neighbourhoods and see what is on in each. The Bangkok Art and Culture Centre's listing is the place to check dates and opening times before setting out.

The run is long enough that a single visit may not be enough. Those who go early and come back later will see the show at different points in its four months. Anyone interested in contemporary art from across the world can find work from 29 countries in one city.
