At Least Five DSA-Endorsed Candidates Win U.S. House Seats in 2026 Midterms

At least five candidates endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) won seats in the U.S. House of Representatives in the November 3 midterm elections, according to Associated Press race calls reported by NPR.
The winners are Darializa Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez in New York, Melat Kiros in Colorado, Donavan McKinney in Michigan and Chris Rabb in Pennsylvania. McKinney ran in Michigan's 13th Congressional District. Rabb ran in Pennsylvania's 3rd District and had served as a state representative in Pennsylvania before his run for Congress.
Several of the winners had already defeated sitting members of Congress in primary elections. Kiros beat 15-term Rep. Diana DeGette in Colorado's 1st Congressional District primary in July. Avila Chevalier beat Rep. Adriano Espaillat, chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, in New York's 13th District primary earlier this year.
Before this year's elections, only two sitting House members were DSA members: Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York. NPR reported that, with the new victories, the number of DSA members in the House is on track to more than triple when the next Congress is seated in January.
The DSA said in a March update that it had almost 90 endorsed candidates in the 2026 cycle, including more than a dozen congressional candidates. In a November 3 post, its publication Democratic Left said at least 212 DSA campaigns were on the ballot in the 2026 elections.
Among the higher-profile races, DSA-backed Nithya Raman ran against incumbent Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, according to the Associated Press.
All 435 House districts were up for election. Reuters reported in October that Republicans were defending a narrow majority in the chamber.
