WTFilms Takes On Cursed-Grappa Comedy-Thriller The Dregs for AFM Sales Push

WTFilms has come on board The Dregs, a comedy-thriller, ahead of a sales launch at the American Film Market, the deal-making market where independent films are shown to buyers. Deadline reported the news on 4 November 2026. In trade terms, "boarded" means a company has signed on to help sell a film.
The story follows a group of friends whose trip to the Italian Alps turns frightening after they drink a cursed bottle of grappa, a strong Italian spirit. Stephen Lang plays an evil waiter whose bewitched grappa recipe takes the group out one by one.
The ensemble also includes Maddie Phillips, Charlie Gillespie, Piper Curda, Nava Mau and Shohreh Aghdashloo. Lang is best known to many audiences for his work in the Avatar films, and Deadline's March report on the casting described the film as starring an Emmy-nominated actor from Baby Reindeer.
The film was shot in British Columbia earlier this year and is now in post-production, the stage where editors, sound teams and visual-effects artists finish a movie. Connor Martin wrote the screenplay and is making his directorial debut. The production companies credited are Anwar Pictures, Fraulein Filmworks, Microelle, Astral Plane and Rosewood.
WTFilms will also unveil a promo reel for the film. A promo reel is a short preview, usually a few minutes long, that shows buyers the look and tone of a movie before it is complete. Such reels are a common tool at markets like the AFM, where sales agents and buyers decide which titles to take to cinemas, streaming services and other territories.
For the film's makers, the reel is the next visible step. The cast, the cursed grappa and the mountain setting now have a public sales pitch, and buyers at the market will be the first to see how the pieces fit together. No release date or buyer has been named so far.
What the film is like on screen is a question for critics. What the reporting does show is how a film of this kind moves: a script, a shoot, an edit, and then a sales launch timed to the market where distributors gather.
