"The Lie of Sherwood Forest" Takes Its Sales Pitch to the AFM Ahead of a 9 November Shoot

The German-produced film "The Lie of Sherwood Forest" is taking its sales campaign to the American Film Market, and filming starts on 9 November. Variety reported the news on 4 November 2026.
The film is directed by Patrick Vollrath. It stars Thomasin McKenzie, Finn Cole and Antony Starr, with Smylie Bradwell, Brian Vernel and Richard Durden also in the cast. Harris Kauffman wrote the screenplay from a story by Joachim Hedén and Patrick Vollrath.
The production company is augenschein, based in Germany. Maximilian Leo, Jonas Katzenstein and Daniel Sonnabend are listed as producers, and the film is a co-production with ZDF, one of Germany's public broadcasters. Augenschein and Logical Pictures Group are financing the picture.
On the sales side, Logical Pictures International and Protagonist Pictures will handle the film's sales. Sales agents are the companies that find buyers for a movie in different countries, often before it is finished. The American Film Market, held each November, is one of the main places where those buyers and agents meet. A film that is still being shot can be sold this way, because buyers are choosing from a script, a cast and a team rather than a finished cut.
That is the part of the story worth noticing. Deals struck at a market like this decide, months or years later, which films reach cinemas and streaming services in each territory. Pre-sales, where a buyer commits money before the film exists, can also help a financier share the risk of making it.
Filming is due to begin on 9 November. Until the shoot wraps and a release is set, the film has no release date or box-office figures, and none have been announced.
