Beef creator Lee Sung Jin launches Lila Pictures with two Netflix projects

Lee Sung Jin, the creator of the Netflix series Beef, has launched a new production company called Lila Pictures. Deadline first reported the launch on 4 November 2026.
The company will develop original film and television projects for Lee to create, executive produce, write and direct. "Executive produce" means overseeing a show from behind the scenes, rather than running the day-to-day filming. Lila Pictures also plans to invest in new voices, meaning writers and filmmakers who are still early in their careers.
Lee is already developing two projects with Netflix as part of the launch. "Developing" means the work is at an early stage, with scripts and plans still being shaped before any show is made.
The first is The Only Child, a limited series. That means a show told in one complete run of episodes, rather than one that continues season after season. It reunites Lee with Ali Wong, who stars in the series and produces it. Wong plays the mother of a professional archer preparing to compete for her first gold medal.
Lee has also brought in Hyunji Ward as senior vice president of film and television at Lila Pictures. A senior vice president is a top-level executive who leads a company's work in a particular area. Ward started her career at UTA, the Hollywood talent agency, in its motion picture department. For the last four years she was a creative director at TeaTime Pictures, the company run by actor Dakota Johnson.
Netflix is also home to another drama with a Beef connection. Citizen's Arrest was created by Gene Hong, who worked as a producer on Beef. The series follows two longtime friends and neighbours. Their obsession with solving a crime in their local area becomes a way to escape their own private troubles.
For viewers, the news is about what comes next. Lee's new company is starting out, and its two Netflix projects are still in development. Anyone who has enjoyed Lee's work will be watching to see which of those projects reaches the screen first.
