Danny Boyle's 'Ink' Takes Best International Feature at Evolution Mallorca

Danny Boyle's Ink won Best International Feature Film at the Evolution Mallorca Film Festival, which closed on 4 November after opening on 31 October, according to Variety.
The 15th edition of the festival, held on the Spanish island of Mallorca, screened more than 140 films. Variety reports that it drew over 10,000 attendees from more than 23 countries, and that nearly 400 filmmakers took part.
Paweł Pawlikowski won Best Director in the International Feature Film competition. Jordan Firstman's Club Kid took Best Debut Feature. The film had also opened the festival as a gala screening at the Palau de Congressos, the city's congress centre. The festival describes it as a story about a washed-up New York party promoter who is left caring for the 10-year-old son he never knew he had.
The short film prizes went to Balearic filmmakers. Marine Auclair March's Gamberra won Best Made in Baleares Short Film, and Simón García won Best Cinematography for his work on the same film. "Made in Baleares" is the festival's label for productions linked to the Balearic Islands.
The festival also handed career awards to cinematographer Matthew Libatique, director Edward Berger, actress Diane Kruger and actress Iris Berben.
Before the prizes were announced, Screen Daily had named Woman Unknown, directed by May el-Toukhy, and Fatherland among the awards favourites. The same outlet listed Nora Jänicke's Isola among the films in International competition, alongside Ink. Variety had earlier counted Jesse Eisenberg's The Debut among the festival's international highlights.
The closing film was The End of It, directed by María Martínez Bayona.
For the filmmakers involved, the week offers something a box-office figure cannot: a room full of buyers, sales agents and fellow directors watching the work at the same time. Festival prizes do not set release dates or guarantee a cinema run, but they can help a film find its audience once distributors start making their plans.
