M!LK's "That's! Chojo" Takes No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100

M!LK, a five-member boy band, has reached No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 with "That's! Chojo," according to the chart released on Nov. 4. It is the group's second chart-topper on the list, after "Bakuretsu Aishiteru."
The song came out digitally on Oct. 26, the first day of the chart week, which ran to Nov. 1. It is the opening theme for the TV anime Chojun! Chojo Senpai. Billboard Japan reported that the song ranked No. 1 for video views, No. 2 for radio airplay, No. 2 for downloads and No. 4 for streaming in that week.
The Hot 100 is a weekly ranking that combines several kinds of activity: physical and digital sales, audio streams (plays on music services), radio airplay, video views and karaoke data. A song does not need to lead every category to top the overall list. Its position comes from the combined score.
Further down the chart, there was plenty of movement. EBiDAN's "Yes! Tokyo" climbed from No. 4 to No. 2, ranking second for both video views and streaming. Vaundy's "Shiwaawase" rose from No. 7 to No. 3. The song is the theme for the film Mama ga Mou Kono Sekai ni Inakutemo: Watashi no Inochi no Nikki (All Our Tomorrows).
Mrs. GREEN APPLE's "Cinderella" made one of the largest jumps on the chart, moving from No. 26 to No. 4. NGT48's "Kaze no Kataomoi" debuted at No. 5 after selling 83,457 copies, enough to top the chart's sales category for the week.
Chart weeks like this one come down to ordinary choices: a video watched twice, a song played on the radio, a copy bought to keep. Each one feeds a single score, and the score decides who sits at the top. For the people behind these releases, from the label staff to the animation studio and the broadcasters, the week's numbers are the first proof of how a song has landed with listeners.
