Kate Mara, Leslie Mann, Ashton Kutcher and Billy Eichner Set for Dark Comedy Home Shopper

Kate Mara, Leslie Mann, Ashton Kutcher and Billy Eichner are set to star in Home Shopper, a dark comedy directed by Tilman Singer. Deadline reported the casting as an exclusive on 4 November 2026.

The film is based on a short of the same name. Dev Patel directed that 2018 Sundance short, which was written by Farhoudi from a story by Leigh Whannell. Singer directs the feature from Farhoudi's screenplay.

In the film, Mara plays Penny. Kutcher plays Willy, a television shopping host, and Mann plays Cybil, his co-host. Dark comedy means the laughs come from a bleak or uncomfortable starting point, and the premise is built around the world of home shopping broadcasts.

Dane and Cole Eckerle produce for Bad Grey, together with Aaron Bergman for Iconoclast. Jomon Thomas, Geoff McLean, Dev Patel and Natalya Pavchinskaya are executive producers. Patel therefore appears on the project both as the director of the original short and as an executive producer on the feature.

Shooting is planned for spring 2027, according to Deadline.

The film is also moving into the deal market. Architect has launched international sales on Home Shopper ahead of the American Film Market, the November event where sales companies show projects to distributors from around the world. International sales means selling the right to show the film in countries outside North America, and buyers can make offers before a single frame is shot.

CAA Media Finance is handling North American rights, which means the right to sell the film in the United States and Canada. Deadline reported that arrangement in the same report as the casting.

Deals of this kind are often where a film's path to cinemas or streaming begins. Cast announcements and sales launches like these usually come months or years before a release date, and none has been set for Home Shopper.
