Scarlett Johansson Calls Her Batman Role 'Hard to Crack'

Scarlett Johansson says her role in The Batman: Part II has been a real challenge. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she said she had "a lot of existential angst" on set. In comments published by Deadline on 4 November 2026, she called the part "very hard to figure out" and "hard to crack."
She plays Gilda Dent, the wife of Gotham district attorney Harvey Dent. Sebastian Stan plays Harvey, and Johansson's Avengers co-star will be on screen with her in the role. Johansson joined the cast in May, and director Matt Reeves confirmed the casting on X.
The film is a sequel to The Batman from 2022 and is a DC Studios feature. Robert Pattinson returns as Batman, as The Hollywood Reporter listed in May. Variety also reported in May that Brian Tyree Henry had been added to the cast.
The release date has also moved. Deadline reports that The Batman: Part II is now set for 18 February 2028. Studios shift dates to find a quieter weekend or to give a film more time before its audience arrives, and a change like this can alter the plans of rival releases.
Big franchise films are usually cast and dated long before filming wraps. The gap between the first casting news and the first ticket sale can stretch across several years. For Johansson, the wait for audiences to see her version of Gilda Dent now runs into 2028.
