Adam Driver says he will not play Kylo Ren again. Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, he said, "Yeah, it's over... No more 'Star Wars,'" according to Variety, which published the interview on 5 November 2026.

Kylo Ren is the masked villain Driver played in the sequel trilogy of the Star Wars films. Ben Solo is the name the character was born with. Driver was also asked about a standalone film that would have followed the character alone, a movie that would stand apart from the main series. He said, "I think the ship has sailed."

The project had been pitched to Lucasfilm, the studio that makes Star Wars, and its parent company Disney. Driver and director Steven Soderbergh were behind the idea. Soderbergh was attached to direct, and the script was developed over a few years by Soderbergh, Driver, Scott Burns and Rebecca Blunt, Variety reports. Disney executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman rejected the screenplay because they did not see how Ben Solo could still be alive.

A day earlier, on 4 November 2026, IGN had reported that Driver would return as the character if the canceled solo film were revived. His latest comments leave that revival looking unlikely, and no new plan for the film has been announced.

Fans took the matter outside the studio gates. Star Wars supporters paid for a plane to fly a banner reading "Save The Hunt for Ben Solo" over Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California. It is an unusual way to lobby for a film, and it shows how much the character still matters to a loyal audience.

For a general reader, the takeaway is simple. A story that many fans hoped to see is now off the table, at least for the actor who would have starred in it. Any future Star Wars film featuring Kylo Ren would need a new cast decision.
