Documentary on the Foiled Vienna Taylor Swift Plot Set for German TV in 2027

A documentary about the terror plot that forced three Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna to be cancelled is due on German broadcaster ZDF in October 2027, followed by an international rollout, Variety reported on 5 November 2026.

The film has the working title "Taylor Swift Wien". "Wien" is the German word for Vienna. It is directed by Andreas Pichler and Veronika Kaserer, and produced by Beetz Brothers and Austria's Markand Media.

According to Variety, the film follows how secret services, including the CIA, Britain's MI5, and agencies in Austria and Germany, prevented the attack. Austrian authorities thwarted the plot, in part because of a tip-off from U.S. intelligence.

The concerts were set for 8 to 10 August 2024 at Ernst Happel Stadium, where more than 200,000 fans were expected. They were cancelled after authorities were warned of a plot. Two teenage boys had devised a scheme using explosives and other weapons, intending to kill as many concertgoers as possible. The main perpetrator was then 19. He was an Austrian citizen of North Macedonian descent, known only as Beran A., and he had sworn allegiance to the Islamic State, Variety reported.

Swift responded at the time. In an Instagram post on 21 August 2024, marking the end of the tour's European leg, she called the cancellations "devastating."

The courts have also acted since. In May 2026, an Austrian court in Wiener Neustadt sentenced a 21-year-old man who had admitted planning the attack to 15 years in prison, Reuters reported. The trial had opened in April of that year.

In late September 2026, an Austrian man convicted of planning the foiled attack lost a privacy lawsuit against Disney, Reuters reported.

For fans, the timing is worth noting. The concerts were cancelled more than two years before the documentary's planned broadcast date, so the film will arrive well after the events it describes. ZDF's October 2027 slot is the first dated release announced so far, and the international rollout has no dates attached yet.
