Six Dead in Brooklyn Home Fire; Cause Under Investigation

Six people died in a fire that tore through a home in Brooklyn, New York City, early on Thursday, November 5, according to the Guardian.
The fire started at about 1:40 a.m. on 58th Street, between 6th and 7th avenues, in the Sunset Park neighborhood. It spread through a two-story house and reached another home. It took about three hours to bring under control, and more than 200 first responders came to the scene.
The FDNY, the New York City Fire Department, said four victims died at the scene. Two critically injured people were later pronounced dead at the hospital. Names and ages of the victims had not been released early Thursday morning.
Seven other people were injured, including three firefighters. Four of the injured suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and the three firefighters suffered minor injuries.
Investigators are looking into the cause. A lithium-ion battery, a common rechargeable battery type, or possibly two, was found at the scene. The FDNY said it was unknown whether the batteries were related to the cause.
The fire comes as attention on battery-powered transport has grown in the city. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has said e-bike fires have increased to more than 400 this year in New York City.
