Chloé, the Paris fashion house, opened a new boutique at The Royal Poinciana Plaza in Palm Beach, Florida, on Thursday, 5 November. According to WWD, the store covers 1,700 square feet, or about 158 square metres.

The shop sells leather goods, ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories. Ready-to-wear means clothing made in standard sizes and sold off the rack, as against made-to-measure garments cut for one customer. The boutique shows the fall and resort collections designed by creative director Chemena Kamali. A resort collection is the range shown between the main seasons, ahead of the main fashion calendar.

The boutique also presents Chemena Kamali's Chloé à la Plage collection. The name is French for "at the beach," which fits a store on the Florida coast.

Laurent Malecaze is president and chief executive officer of Chloé. Samantha David is president of WS Development.

Chloé is best known for its handbags and its ready-to-wear clothing, and its boutiques are a central part of how the brand sells directly to customers. A boutique like this one is a single shop run by the brand itself, as against a department store or a multi-brand retailer that stocks the label alongside others. The Palm Beach site adds one more location to that network.

The opening is a retail move rather than a change at the top of the company. The creative director, the chief executive and the collections on show are all in place. For readers following fashion business, the detail to note is the store's size and its mix of products. Leather goods, clothing, footwear and accessories all sit under one roof, in a space of 1,700 square feet.
