'7 Miles Out' Brings Carol Morley's 1977 Coming-of-Age Story to Screen

Carol Morley's coming-of-age drama '7 Miles Out' is back in the headlines after Deadline published a review of the UK film on 5 November 2026.
The story begins in 1977. It follows Ann, whose world is shaped by the gap between her home in Stockport and the city of Manchester. The title refers to that distance. Amelie Hughes plays Ann as a pre-teen, and Lucy Halliday plays her as an older woman.
The family around Ann includes two people she has to reckon with. Aiden Gillen plays Ronald, her father. Kasper Hilton-Hille plays Scott, her older brother.
Morley wrote and directed the film, which adapts her semi-autobiographical novel. Her earlier films include 'Dreams of a Life' and 'The Falling'. Michael Winterbottom served as executive producer, a role that usually covers the money and the business side of a production rather than the day-to-day filming.
The film has already had its public debut. Deadline listed '7 Miles Out' among the official competition films at the London Film Festival in August. The BFI, which runs the festival, scheduled a screening for Saturday 17 October as part of its 2026 programme.
A festival slot is often the first step in a long journey. Films shown at festivals like London's are then sold to distributors, who decide when and where audiences can see them. No cinema release date has been announced, so anyone keen to see it will need to watch for that news.
