Toro y Moi has announced a new album, Unusua, due for release on 20 November. Pitchfork reported the title and date. The album has seven tracks and was produced by Toro y Moi himself.

The news first appeared on Bandcamp, the online shop where artists sell music directly to fans. The Unusua listing went up on the Toro y Moi page, which is run under the name of Chaz Bear, the musician behind the project. Stereogum reported that the listing was posted without further detail, and that a song called "Motive" was shared alongside the announcement.

The album already has one song in public view. Toro y Moi premiered the single "Proof" in October. It is a piano-driven track, built around the instrument, and it is included on Unusua. Pitchfork's report describes the single as the first look at the record for many listeners.

Toro y Moi is based in Oakland, California, according to the about section of the Bandcamp page. Earlier this year, the act opened for the Japanese musician Haruomi Hosono on Hosono's dates in the United States. Unusua follows Hole Erth, which came out on 6 September 2024 and is the eighth album of Toro y Moi's career.

For fans, the next date to mark is 20 November. The album can be heard on the Bandcamp page, where earlier Toro y Moi releases are also listed.

For anyone new to the project, the pattern is familiar. An album is announced, a single goes out first, and the full record follows on a set date. The gap between the first song and the full album gives listeners time to hear the songs in context before the rest of the tracks arrive.
