Yoshitomo Nara Brings Almost 100 Works to David Zwirner in New York

Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara is showing almost 100 works in New York, his first gallery show in the city in nine years, according to Artnet News.
The exhibition, simply titled "Yoshitomo Nara," opens on November 5 and runs until December 12, 2026. It is spread across two spaces run by David Zwirner, the New York gallery: New York: 19th Street and New York: 20th Street. The show will open at the gallery's 537 West 20th Street location in Chelsea, the art district on Manhattan's West Side.
The works span his career. The gallery says the show includes new paintings and drawings, recent sculptures and earlier pieces. Some material comes from Nara's studio in Nasushiobara, a town in Tochigi Prefecture in northern Japan, where he works. Artnet News reports that the exhibition includes items from that studio.
The show also marks a change in who represents him. David Zwirner announced in November 2025 that it had taken on Nara's work, and this is his first solo exhibition with the gallery. Before that, he showed with Pace Gallery for 14 years, according to ArtNews.
Galleries rarely move an artist's full career into one show without a reason. What the public can see is clear, though. For roughly five weeks, from early November to mid-December, anyone in New York can walk through nearly 100 works in two buildings on the same street.
Visitors who want to plan ahead should check the gallery's website for opening hours and any admission details before they go.
