Daniel MacPherson has joined the cast of "Bluefly," a science-fiction action thriller, Variety reported on 6 November 2026.

The film is headlined by Russell Crowe and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. "Headlined" means they are the names given top billing on the poster and in the marketing. MacPherson will play Dugan, a Special Forces soldier toughened by years of combat.

The story is set in the Congo. It centres on a secret operation to retrieve an aircraft that has gone down, a mission that is kept hidden from the outside world. Chopra Jonas plays a translator working for the United Nations, placing her character among the people who communicate between the mission and the local setting.

Nimród Antal is directing the film. The script is by David Frigerio, William Eubank and Carlyle Eubank.

Principal photography, the main stretch of filming when most scenes are shot, will take place on Australia's Gold Coast. The Congo setting will therefore be built and filmed far from Africa, a common practice when a production needs locations that are easier to control or to reach.

MacPherson and Crowe have worked together before. MacPherson previously starred opposite Crowe in "Beast," which gives the two actors a shared history on a set before this project.

No release date has been announced. For now, the news is the cast: a new name joins two leads, a director and a writing team, and a shoot on the Gold Coast is set to begin.
