Shooting in Trappes Leaves One Dead and Seven Wounded

A shooting in Trappes, a southwestern suburb of Paris, left one person dead and seven wounded, according to Reuters. The deadly shooting took place in Trappes and in La Verrière, both in the Yvelines, the administrative department that covers this part of the Paris region.
The attack began on Friday, October 23. According to Radio France, the principal suspect was arrested that same day. Early reports from the scene said the gunshots came from a vehicle, according to DW.
Trappes is home to a large immigrant population, and the town's residents have been speaking about the attack in the days since. The New York Times reported that residents blame far-right rhetoric for the shooting rampage. The local mayor, Ali Rabeh, has also spoken publicly about the attack, and Le Monde reported that residents described a mix of anger and resignation toward the racism they see around them.
Thousands of people later gathered in the Paris suburb to pay tribute to the victims, Reuters reported.
