The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York has chosen two curators for its 2028 Whitney Biennial. The show is the museum's large exhibition of recent art from across the United States, held every two years. ARTnews reported the selection on 6 November 2026.

The curators are Meg Onli and Zack Winokur. Onli is 42 and has worked at the Whitney since 2023. She is no stranger to the job. She co-curated the 2024 Biennial, titled "Even Better Than the Real Thing," with Chrissie Iles, so 2028 will be her second time shaping the show.

Winokur is 37. He is a former dancer, according to The New York Times. Two curators working together is the pattern for this exhibition, and the pairing is what the museum announced.

The 2028 edition will be the 83rd Whitney Biennial. It opens in March 2028, roughly sixteen months after the announcement.

Why does the choice matter? The curators decide which artists and works go on display, so their picks shape what visitors see when the doors open. The Biennial has also been a regular stop for people who want a snapshot of what American artists are making at a given moment.

For the museum's staff, the next stretch means planning. Exhibitions of this size involve loan requests, transport, installation crews and insurance, all arranged months in advance. Those are the details that decide whether a show runs smoothly, and they start long before the first visitor walks in.

The announcement gives the public a clear date and a clear name list to watch. Further details about the artists and works in the 2028 show have not yet been released.
