Bath have signed Argentinian prop Marcos Camerlinckx, according to BBC Sport. The 22-year-old is a tighthead prop, one of the two front-row forwards who pack down at the scrum, where the two teams lock together and push against each other to win the ball. Tightheads are often prized for their strength and technique, because the scrum is one of the hardest contests in the game.

Camerlinckx has already played at a fair level. He is a former Argentina Under-20 international, and he won the Super Rugby Americas Championship with Pampas XV, a team that competes in the regional tournament for sides from the Americas. He also played for Argentina XV against the United States in August. He has not yet earned a full cap for Argentina, meaning he has not played for the senior national team.

Bath have not said how long the contract runs. The club has not released details of the length of the deal, so it is not yet clear how long Camerlinckx will be with the English club.

Bath compete in Premiership Rugby, the top flight of English club rugby. Players from South America have become a familiar part of that league in recent years, and signings like this one show how clubs look across the Atlantic for big, experienced forwards.

Camerlinckx's first matches in a Bath shirt will show what he can offer. For now, the news is simple: a young Argentine front-rower is heading to Bath.
