Migael Pretorius has agreed a new deal to keep playing for Somerset in 2027, BBC Sport reports. The South African all-rounder, a player who both bats and bowls, will be available in all three formats the county plays.

Those formats run from the four-day County Championship, the longest form of the game, through to the 50-over version and the short Twenty20 game, where each side bats for a fixed 20 overs. Pretorius signed a multi-format contract ahead of his return to Somerset in 2026, Somerset's club website confirmed at the time. The 2027 season will be his fourth campaign at the club's home ground in Taunton.

His record at the club is already substantial. He has played 40 times for Somerset and scored 827 runs. His highest score is 95 not out, made against Nottinghamshire in a County Championship match in 2024. "Not out" means he was still batting when his side's innings ended.

With the ball, he has taken 106 wickets for the county. His best figures are 5 for 64, meaning five batsmen out for 64 runs in a single innings. He was also part of the Somerset side that won the T20 Blast in 2025, the club's domestic Twenty20 competition.

Overseas players are a familiar part of English county cricket, and a club often has to decide each winter who will return. Keeping one for several seasons gives a side continuity, both in the squad room and on the field. Somerset have now secured that for 2027.

Details of the financial terms have not been made public, and no other squad changes linked to the deal have been confirmed.
