Natalia Dyer and Elijah Wood are set to join a sequel to "1408", the 2007 film, according to Variety, which published the report on 6 November 2026. Dyer will star in the film, and Wood will take a supporting role.

The original film is based on Stephen King's 1999 short story of the same name. It starred John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson as its leads, and it went on to gross $132 million worldwide against a $25 million budget, according to Variety. Those two actors are now in talks to return. Variety reports that Cusack and Jackson are negotiating the terms of their comeback, and that both would reprise their original roles in secondary parts.

Mikael Håfström, who directed the 2007 film, is coming back to direct the sequel. He also co-wrote the new script with Mark Verheiden. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Richard Saperstein, Spyglass Media Group and Frank Mayor are producing.

The money is coming from two companies. Bluestone Entertainment and FilmNation Entertainment are co-financing the picture. FilmNation also holds the international distribution rights, meaning it will sell the film to cinemas and broadcasters outside the United States and Canada. It shares the domestic rights, the United States and Canada, with WME Independent. Those rights decide who gets to release the film in each territory, and they are usually sold or set before a film is finished.

John Papsidera is the casting director. He chooses the actors who are invited to audition or read for each role, and his name on a project often signals how the casting process is running.

Production is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2027, which means January to March of that year. Deals still being negotiated can change before filming starts.

For a film that started life as a short story, the sequel shows how far a single idea can travel. King's tale about a hotel room that tests anyone who spends the night in it became a feature film almost a decade ago. Now it is being built out again, with a new lead and a new supporting cast around the actors who made the first film.

Anyone who wants to follow the project can expect more announcements as the deals close and the production date comes closer.
