Thai director Banjong Pisanthanakun says his psychological horror film Inherit will get a sequel, and its star, Davika Hoorne, is set to return. Variety reported the announcement on 7 November.

Hoorne plays Woranart, a youthful-looking grandmother who moves in with her granddaughter's wealthy family. Woranart carries a centuries-old centipede spirit that has designs on the youngest member of the household, a child named Oui. Banjong's first choice for the immortal grandmother was Hoorne, according to the same report.

The two have worked together before. They first collaborated on Pee Mak, a 2013 horror-comedy that remains Thailand's biggest local box office hit of all time. Banjong also made Shutter, another Thai horror hit. Inherit marks his return to the director's chair after four years, as Variety reported in April.

The film had its world premiere in September, as a Centrepiece selection at the Toronto International Film Festival. TIFF says Banjong takes a different tonal approach here from his earlier box office horror hits. The Film Stage describes the picture as having an intensely sexual tone, alongside violence and gore, and says Hoorne's demon Woranart seduces everyone she meets.

On the festival circuit, Inherit is listed as an Official Selection in the Icon section of the Jakarta World Cinema festival, where it is also closing the event. The festival's listing puts the in-person closing on 7 November. The film opens across Thailand on 19 November.

For Thai audiences, the 19 November date is the next step. For a sequel, the ledger usually starts with the original's numbers, and the trade has not yet shared how Inherit is tracking at the box office. Details of the sequel, including a release date and the rest of its cast, have not been announced.
