Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh wore a midnight-blue metallic knit dress by the Paris fashion house Alaïa to the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday 7 November 2026. Hello Magazine reported that it was an outfit she had worn before.

The Festival of Remembrance is an evening of music and readings organised each year by the Royal British Legion, the charity that supports serving and former members of the armed forces. It takes place on the eve of Remembrance Sunday, and the BBC is broadcasting this year's edition on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 9pm.

The dress is a fit-and-flare midi. That means it is fitted through the top and widens from the waist into a skirt that falls below the knee. It has a wide boater neckline, a broad, shallow neckline that sweeps across the collarbones. For the evening, the Duchess added a black shawl and a red poppy brooch, the flower that has become the symbol of remembrance for those who died in war.

Hello reported that she first wore the same dress in 2024, and again during a 2022 visit to the Channel Islands. Reusing an outfit is a practice many royal women follow, and it often attracts attention for the same reason the original did.

Her choices at this event have drawn comment before. Hello Magazine priced a black velour dress she wore to the festival in 2023 at £250. That design was a high-neck maxi dress with semi-sheer lace sleeves.

Other members of the family are also on the programme. The Royal Family's official website listed the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester as attending the Festival of Remembrance on 7 November 2026.

Last year's festival drew attention to a different set of looks. GB News reported that the Princess of Wales wore a £1,685 dress by the British designer Alessandra Rich, paired with an HMS Glasgow brooch. The same report said Prince George attended the event with his mother for the first time.

The poppy pin and the shawl are a reminder of the evening's purpose. The festival raises money for the Royal British Legion's work, and the Remembrance weekend that follows includes the March Past the Cenotaph in London.
