Plymouth Argyle Thrash Alvechurch 4-0 to Reach FA Cup Second Round

Plymouth Argyle beat Alvechurch 4-0 on Saturday to reach the second round of the FA Cup. Plymouth are a League One side, the third tier of English professional football, and they took care of business at home with a second-half burst that settled the tie.
Alvechurch play in the Southern League Premier Central, a non-league division sitting well below the professional pyramid. Their players will have known they faced a tough afternoon, and they did not get the early chances they needed to make it a contest.
The breakthrough came in the 50th minute, when Will Evans put Plymouth ahead. He doubled the lead in the 69th minute, and the game was effectively over. Michael Baidoo added a third in the 78th minute, and Ronan Curtis completed the scoring in the 80th. Evans finished with two goals, while Baidoo and Curtis each found the net once.
The referee was Elliot Swallow. The two clubs had never met in the FA Cup proper before, so there was no history between them to lean on. Each side arrived with a fresh story for the competition.
The tie was made at the draw on 19 October, when the Football Association paired the teams for the first round proper. That is the stage where clubs from lower divisions often get their chance at a bigger name. Plymouth, who have a professional squad, were the favourites on paper, and they played like it from the first whistle onwards.
For Plymouth, the next date on the calendar is the second round, scheduled for Saturday 5 December 2026. The draw for that round will decide their opponent. For Alvechurch, the cup run ends here, but a 4-0 defeat away from home to a League One side is not a shameful way to go out. Their players will have learned plenty from the experience.
The FA Cup is one of the few competitions where a small club can meet a big one and hold a place in the story for a long time afterwards. Saturday's score will sit in the record books, and in Plymouth's case it moves them on to the next round.
