Luton Town Beat Forest Green Rovers 2-0 to Reach FA Cup Second Round

Luton Town are through to the second round of the FA Cup after beating Forest Green Rovers 2-0 at Kenilworth Road on Saturday 7 November.
The FA Cup is the oldest knockout competition in football. Clubs from all levels of the English game enter, and one defeat ends the run. Forest Green Rovers play in the National League, the fifth tier of English football, so this was a tie between clubs from very different levels. Luton's record in this competition is strong. The FA noted before the game that Luton had progressed from 15 of their previous 16 first-round ties. The only exception was a 2-1 defeat to Welling United.
Forest Green's own match report confirmed the scoreline and that the club's cup run is over. Forest Green Rovers said they lost 2-0 and will not be in the second round. ESPN also recorded the final score as 2-0.
The tie was drawn in October and kicked off at 3pm. Kenilworth Road, Luton's home ground, was the venue. Luton Town's club website has since published a verdict on the win.
For Luton, the result keeps their cup run alive and moves them on to the next round, where they will face a club yet to be drawn. For Forest Green, the afternoon ends their involvement in the competition for this season.
Cup weekends like this one often turn on small margins. A side from a lower division can frighten a bigger club for an hour, and a single moment can change the mood of a whole afternoon. This time, the home side got the job done and collected the win that moves them on.
