Four people were killed and at least 88 were injured on November 8, 2026, when two passenger trains collided in Giza province, Egypt's Health Ministry said, according to Reuters. Giza is one of the provinces around Cairo, and the collision was reported to have taken place about 76 km (47 miles) south of the capital.

The crash happened in the al-Ayyat district. Al Jazeera reported that a train travelling between Giza and Fayoum ran into the back of another train on the Cairo-to-Aswan route, and that the second train then derailed onto a countryside road. The carriages overturned in the process, Al Jazeera said.

Emergency teams moved the injured quickly. Al Jazeera reported that more than 70 ambulances were deployed to take casualties from the crash scene to hospitals nearby.

Egypt's rail network carries large numbers of passengers between Cairo and cities farther south, and the Cairo-to-Aswan line is one of its main routes. Aswan lies several hundred kilometres to the south, in Upper Egypt.
