A Bodo/Glimt supporter was taken to hospital after fans fell through a hole in the away stand at Tromso on Sunday. The match was still played, and Bodo/Glimt went on to win 2-0.

The Norwegian top-flight game was held at Romssa Arena in heavy rain. It was goalless when the incident happened. The match was paused just before half-time after Bodo goalkeeper Nikita Haikin called the referee's attention to the stand.

Bodo/Glimt press officer Simen Pedersen said up to five people fell through the stands. Bodo supporter Andrine Moen described what happened. She said fans were bouncing to a supporter song when the floor gave way.

The Bodo fans who had not been hurt were moved to other parts of the ground before the game restarted. Once play resumed, Bodo forward Ola Brynhildsen scored twice to settle the match.

The win matters for the league table too. Bodo/Glimt are top of the Eliteserien, Norway's top division, and are in a title race with Viking. Tromso's stadium is the northernmost venue in the league, far above the Arctic Circle, and the season is due to finish in the first week of December.

For a stadium packed with supporters, a floor giving way is about as frightening as it gets. Football matches rely on fans standing, singing and jumping together, and that is exactly what made this so dangerous. Clubs and authorities will want to know how a section of stand could fail while a game was in progress.

Bodo/Glimt's win will be the headline in Norway. For the injured supporter and the others caught up in the collapse, the result will count for much less than their own recovery.
