Middlesex County Cricket Club has confirmed that chief executive Andrew Cornish was dismissed in June 2026 after an independent disciplinary panel upheld misconduct charges against him.

The case began in November 2025, when the Guardian first revealed that Cornish had been suspended after Middlesex received a complaint about his alleged behaviour towards a fellow staff member. The complaint was referred to the Cricket Regulator — the independent body responsible for prosecuting disciplinary cases across the sport. The Regulator investigated, charged Cornish with misconduct, and took the case to the Cricket Disciplinary Panel (CDP), a three-person panel that is understood to have found against him.

Cornish has denied wrongdoing and is exploring his legal options. The allegations are not regarded as a criminal matter and the case has not been passed to the Metropolitan Police.

During Cornish's eight-month suspension, Middlesex appointed two interim chief executives: Mahdi Choudhury, the club's chief operating officer, and Julie Harrington, the former head of British Cycling. Harrington is regarded as a serious contender to take the role on a permanent basis.

Cornish's departure adds to a turbulent period for Middlesex, one of English cricket's oldest county clubs, based at Lord's in London. In September 2023 the club was fined £50,000 and handed a suspended points deduction by the ECB — the sport's governing body in England and Wales — for breaching financial regulations, including misuse of central funding. In June 2024, Middlesex was charged with improper conduct by the Cricket Regulator following complaints against another senior employee, though the club was found not guilty by the CDP.

Cornish himself arrived at Middlesex in 2020 as a consultant to then-CEO Richard Goatell, and replaced him in 2021 after Goatell stepped down due to ill health. Before joining Middlesex, Cornish was sacked from his role at Somerset County Cricket Club in 2019.

Separately, Goatell — who served as Middlesex chief executive for six years — is suing the club for over £1 million in a personal injury lawsuit.

Richard Sykes was chair of Middlesex County Cricket Club as of January 2025. The club has not yet made a further public announcement about the process for appointing Cornish's permanent successor.
