Prince Harry FaceTime-called Meghan Markle mid-filming on MasterChef Australia, stopping the kitchen to let the contestants say hello to the Duke of Sussex.

The moment came during a guest-judge appearance by the Duchess of Sussex that aired on 26 July at 7pm on Channel 10, in Season 18, Episode 56 of the long-running cooking competition (Hello! Magazine).

A producer walked on set and told Meghan, "We've had a phone call to the studio," before handing her a phone. Meghan answered with the words, "Hi, my love!" Harry replied with a single-word "G'day" — a greeting that drew an immediate reaction from the room.

"My husband's here," Meghan told the contestants, prompting a chorus of cheers. Harry, joining by video, looked around the MasterChef studio and called the set-up "very nice." Judge Poh Ling Yeow quipped back: "We fancied the joint up for your beautiful wife."

Meghan explained that Harry could not be there in person because he was in Canberra meeting with veterans. That detail lines up with the couple's broader Australian itinerary: the MasterChef segment was filmed during a four-day visit in April — their first trip to Australia in eight years. The April trip included stops in Sydney and Melbourne focused on mental health and youth empowerment, with visits to Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital and a sail around Sydney Harbour, according to Hello! Magazine. Harry travelled separately to Canberra to meet veterans at the Australian War Memorial. Reuters separately reported the couple attended a pottery class during the same visit (Reuters/TikTok).

On set, Meghan dropped any formality. When Poh Ling Yeow asked whether to call her "Duchess," Meghan replied: "Oh, call me Meghan. Absolutely, yeah." The 10Play streaming description for the episode — hosted on Network 10's platform — notes that Meghan brought "some of her favourite seasonal produce" to feature in the cooking challenge.

The appearance had been building buzz well before it aired. MasterChef Australia's official Instagram account acknowledged in a promotional post that viewers were threatening to boycott the show over Meghan's guest role (Instagram). Page Six reported days earlier that an on-set request from Meghan had left judge Poh Ling Yeow "upset" (Page Six). What the broadcast itself showed, though, was Poh and Meghan chatting warmly — and Poh joking about sprucing up the kitchen for her.

For viewers, the broadcast delivered the lighter image: a husband phoning his wife at work, a room full of chefs cheering, and a brief exchange of "G'day" and "my love" between two people in different cities on the same trip.
