Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls developer apologises for PC beta performance issues as launch looms

Arc System Works has apologised after PC players reported gameplay and performance problems during the open beta for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a new 3D fighting game built around Marvel characters.

The developer's statement, posted on the game's official X account @MARVELTokon, acknowledged that issues were affecting the PC version of the beta. "We're aware of the gameplay and performance issues currently affecting the PC version of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls," the team wrote. "Our team is actively investigating these issues and working on a fix. We'll share an update as soon as we have more information." The post closed with: "Thank you for your patience and understanding, and we sincerely apologise for the impact this has had on your experience." Eurogamer reported the apology on 26 July 2026 (Eurogamer).

The open beta ran from 24 July through 26 July 2026 on PlayStation 5 and PC, according to the official Epic Games Instagram account, which also confirmed 15 playable characters were available to try. That beta gave players their broadest hands-on yet with the game, which was first announced in June 2025. A prior closed beta in December 2025 had offered eight characters on PS5 only.

Alongside the apology, Arc System Works published troubleshooting tips — with the caveat, as Eurogamer noted, that "these are not officially confirmed fixes." Kotaku had earlier spotted PC players venting about performance complaints on social media and Reddit, which prompted wider coverage of the beta's rough edges.

For players unfamiliar with the developer, Arc System Works is a Japanese studio best known for fighting games — the team behind the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue series, and the well-regarded Dragon Ball FighterZ. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is their first collaboration with Marvel, and it pairs 3D arena-style combat with a roster drawn from across Marvel's catalogue. Revealed characters have included heroes and villains alike, with a "Knights of Doom" reveal introducing Doctor Doom, Magneto, Green Goblin and Carnage as playable fighters.

The full release is scheduled for 6 August 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Windows — less than two weeks away. That timeline means Arc System Works is investigating and patching PC performance issues with the launch date already circled on the calendar.

For fighting games, a genre where input precision and frame-perfect timing matter to competitive play, performance hiccups on a specific platform are more than a cosmetic complaint. Whether the fixes land before the 6 August release, or arrive as a day-one patch, is the question PC players will be watching.
