Rockstar has updated its Grand Theft Auto VI support page with regional restrictions for physical copies that contain download codes instead of discs, and the PlayStation 5 version carries the tightest rules.

Code-in-the-box PS5 copies of GTA 6 are region-locked, meaning a code bought in one part of the world can only be redeemed on a PlayStation Network account registered to that same region. Xbox Series X/S codes face no such restriction and can be redeemed anywhere, regardless of account region. Rockstar attributes the PS5 limitation to PlayStation Network account restrictions (Eurogamer, 27 July 2026).

The publisher also published a full breakdown of which countries each regional version covers. Codes sold in the North America region work in the US and Canada. Brazil-region codes work only in Brazil. LATAM codes cover 14 countries. The remaining groups span the UK, South Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, six additional Asian countries, and 34 nations across the rest of EMEA and Asia.

Players in Japan face an additional catch: download codes printed inside physical copies expire 170 days after printing. Rockstar stated the policy is in accordance with local regulations. If codes are printed on the 19 November 2026 launch date, the last day a Japan copy could be redeemed would be 8 May 2027 (Eurogamer, 27 July 2026).

Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI opened on 25 June 2026 across digital storefronts and select retailers, following Rockstar's announcement on 18 June (Rockstar Newswire). Players who pre-order before 20 November receive the "Vintage Vice City Pack" as a bonus at no additional cost, according to the Rockstar Store. Digital pre-loading begins on 12 November 2026, one week ahead of launch (VGC, 24 July 2026).

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on 19 November 2026.

For anyone planning to import a physical copy, the takeaway is straightforward: PS5 buyers should check their region before purchasing, and anyone buying a copy in Japan should treat the 170-day window as a hard deadline rather than a suggestion.
