Tom Holland swung back into the spotlight on Monday night as "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" held its world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood (The Hollywood Reporter). The film opens in theatres on July 31, giving audiences just three days to wait after the premiere curtain.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, "Brand New Day" is the fourth standalone Spider-Man film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the 38th MCU film overall. It lands as part of Phase Six, the current chapter of Marvel's sprawling interconnected franchise — the series of linked films and streaming shows that share characters and storylines across releases. "Avengers: Doomsday," arriving in December, follows it in the Marvel timeline.

The story picks up four years after the events of "No Way Home," with the world having forgotten that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Peter still patrols New York City, but he is no longer the same young man. He teams up with Frank Castle, the gun-toting vigilante known as the Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal. Michael Mando returns as Mac Gargan, the Scorpion. The plot also promises a new evolution of Peter's powers.

Holland leads a cast that brings back familiar faces and introduces new ones. Zendaya returns as Michelle "MJ" Jones-Watson, and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. Mark Ruffalo appears as Bruce Banner, the Hulk. Two high-profile additions join the fray: Tramell Tillman, known for his role in the Apple TV+ series "Severance," and Sadie Sink of "Stranger Things" fame. Sink's character has been kept secret. Cretton told THR that her role is intentionally under wraps because the movie is better if audiences go in not knowing certain things.

Footage screened at CinemaCon in April revealed that Peter discovers MJ has a new love interest, adding a personal wrinkle to the superhero stakes (Variety). The screenplay comes from Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who co-wrote all three previous Holland-led Spider-Man films. Producing duties fall to Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Rachel O'Connor.

For Marvel, the premiere caps a long marketing runway. The title was first announced by Holland at CinemaCon. Marvel published a teaser revealing the new suit in August 2025, followed by an official trailer in March 2026, teaser posters in April, and a final trailer with ticket sales going live in June (Marvel.com). Behind the scenes, Collider reported that Feige and Pascal cheered after watching the director's cut of the film last week (Collider).

Full critic reviews remain embargoed until July 28. The film hits theatres July 31.
