Dragon's Dogma 2 Modder Builds a Home in the Countryside — From Scratch

A Dragon's Dogma 2 modder known as SonicaKP is building a homesteading mod that lets players construct a house in the game's countryside from the ground up, gathering resources and furnishing it with pieces bought using in-game gold.

The mod, titled "Home is Where the Hearth Is," was still a work in progress as of 28 July 2026, according to Eurogamer. No release date has been shared. A gameplay demo is already viewable on YouTube, uploaded on 26 July 2026.

Dragon's Dogma 2, released by Capcom in March 2024, is an open-world action role-playing game — the kind where you explore a fantasy landscape, fight monsters, and travel with AI-controlled companions called pawns. The base game does not include player-built housing, which is exactly the gap SonicaKP's mod aims to fill.

The homesteading project is part of a larger planned expansion. According to Eurogamer, the broader vision includes creature taming, new mounts — among them griffins — gardening, and the homesteading mechanics themselves. It is an ambitious scope for a community mod, built on top of a game that was never designed to support it.

SonicaKP is not a first-time modder in this community. A previous project, RiftSpeak, hosted on Nexus Mods, gives the player's main pawn — the primary AI companion who fights and travels alongside you — natural conversational dialogue and the ability to act on its own initiative. RiftSpeak was featured as a "Mod of the Month" on Nexus Mods and carries the platform's "Safe to use" virus-scan tag. Installing it requires Fluffy Mod Manager, a popular tool for organising Dragon's Dogma 2 mods.

RiftSpeak's recognition suggests the modder has a track record of delivering finished work, which may reassure players watching the homesteading project take shape.

For fans, the appeal is straightforward. Dragon's Dogma 2 shipped with a rich open world but limited options for players who wanted to settle into it — to build, decorate, and make a corner of the map their own. "Home is Where the Hearth Is" targets that absence directly. Furniture purchased with gold, a resource already central to the game's economy, ties the mod's systems into the existing loop rather than inventing a parallel one.

What makes this stand out is the scale of the ambition relative to the tools available. Capcom did not release official modding tools for Dragon's Dogma 2, meaning community modders work without publisher-provided documentation or support. Projects of this breadth — combining construction, economy integration, and planned creature systems — are typically built over months by individuals or small teams working in their own time.

SonicaKP operates a YouTube channel where development progress and demos are posted. Players interested in following the mod's development can watch there, though anyone expecting a download soon will need to wait: the mod remains undated, and the creator has not indicated when it might be ready.
