King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have released the title track of their forthcoming album Alien Metal, described in its announcement coverage as an EDM record — and by Billboard as the Australian six-piece's "first hard electronic" project (Billboard, Pitchfork).

The album is the band's 28th LP and is due "later this summer" on p(doom) Records, the group's own label, according to Pitchfork and the band's Instagram account. Consequence of Sound characterised the record as a techno album in its July 8 announcement coverage (Consequence of Sound).

The song "Alien Metal" follows the earlier single "Level 5," which appears as track five on the album. King Gizzard revealed the full track listing on their official Instagram (@kinggizzard) on July 14, confirming songs including "Sapience" (track one), "Superheavy, Supercritical" (track three), "Kill For The Steel" (track four), "Rapid Alpha Decay" (track six) and "Uqt" (track seven) (Instagram).

What sets the record apart from the band's sprawling catalogue — which spans psychedelia, thrash metal, microtonal rock and jazz-inflected orchestral work, including 2025's Phantom Island — is the instrument at its centre. The album was made using a modular Eurorack synthesiser, a patchable system of individual sound-generating modules that the band also operates during live shows. The six-piece affectionately calls the rig "Nathan," according to Pitchfork.

Frontman Stu Mackenzie began experimenting with the Eurorack on the recommendation of bandmate Joey Walker. "It completely rewired my brain," Mackenzie told Pitchfork. He added: "I'm going to forget everything I know about music and relearn it all from scratch."

For a band that released five full-length albums in 2022 alone and has built a reputation for relentless stylistic pivots, a wholesale shift into electronic music is consistent with their working method — though "Nathan" represents a deeper gear change than simply picking up a new sound.

The band's live schedule keeps pace with the release. King Gizzard are booked for three nights at Forest Hills Stadium in New York on August 20–22, followed by a "Rave Show" at Under the K Bridge Park in Brooklyn on August 23, according to Pitchfork. An Australian tour in October includes stops at Anita's Theatre in Thirroul, the Hordern Pavilion and Liberty Hall in Sydney, and The Croxton Block Party in Melbourne.

No exact release date for Alien Metal has been confirmed beyond the "later this summer" window. The album will be released on p(doom) Records.
